This drawing is primarily charcoal, but the snake is mixed medium with some pastel and some ink. It is called the ‘Empath and the Snake’ based of a deck of Oracle cards I use sometimes, and specifically a card by that name. And it seems like those that could be considered empathic end up with those we would classify as snakes. In fact, narcissists often target people like that. Because empathic people are givers, and they will keep caring and giving way past a rational point- way past what others would even tolerate. And that is what a narcissist needs, because other people wouldn’t tolerate them.
I had read an article about people in the workplace. That there are givers, takers and those in the middle, say neutral. And a company should look for givers and avoid at all costs takers. Takers detract from the overall work environment and can actually make it toxic. Givers help uplift people but can be taken advantage of by takers and will be, but if there are none there, they are an extremely valuable asset to a company. Personally, I think we can generalize that to all of society and all social groups. Takers suck and no one likes them when they are in any social group. Givers are awesome but they are used often and can burn out as a result- so having no takers is a damn good thing. We want people to uplift not shove people down so they look better. But the world does have a lot of snakes, in all sorts of relationship rolls, and they can really suck the life out of us.
